Teaching Philosophy: Dance (even ballet) is for everyone! I have taught many beginners ballet, and have found that the greatest challenge is often overcoming an individual's own beliefs that they are not talented or capable enough. With repetition, practice, and determination, I have witnessed countless students achieve milestones they initially doubted were possible for themselves. I try to carry this philosophy into my own training as a medical student as well!
Bio: Serena DeTata is a second year medical student at Boston University Chobanian and Avedisian School of Medicine. Prior to starting medical school, she received several scholarships to study ballet at the University of Utah and earned her B.F.A. in 2022. During her gap years, Serena taught ballet to over 300 students of all ages and ability levels. She also volunteered to lead numerous community initiatives to teach dance to students with chronic medical conditions and those who would otherwise not have the opportunity to learn ballet. Serena received several years of training from San Francisco Ballet as an upper level student, and participated in summer intensives at many of the best schools in the United States, including Boston Ballet and Houston Ballet. She is thrilled to be teaching ballet at Urbanity and is excited to see her students flourish as dancers over the coming months.
