Celebrate Anmol Mehra’s Legacy

Honoring 15 Years of Service at Urbanity

As Anmol Mehra retires after 15 transformative years as Board Chair of Urbanity, we invite you to join us in celebrating his remarkable journey and lasting impact on the Boston community. To honor his invaluable contributions, Anmol has been named the Urbanity Dance Board Chair Emeritus

During Anmol’s time at Urbanity, his visionary leadership has helped the organization:

  • Create paid work for 300 Boston dance artists

  • Expand to three studio locations in Boston's South End/ Lower Roxbury, including negotiating a creative transaction between a donor and the City of Boston which allowed Urbanity to purchase the location on Harrison Avenue

  • Lead community-based dance classes to over 20,000 people ranging from 1-100 years

  • Travel across the United States performing on stages from Santa Fe to Orlando, and in Boston, on stages such as Jordan Hall and the Institute of Contemporary Art, in collaboration with world-renowned musicians such as Valerie Stephens, Emmanuel Music, and A Far Cry

  • Create 2,000 Movement Meets workshops reaching 300 people in programs to support physical and mental wellness in the face of challenges such as Parkinson’s Disease, cancer, stroke, homelessness, incarceration, and mental illness.

  • Offer performances for the community reaching over 100,000 people across the Commonwealth

  • Uplift over 1,000 youth in Boston through the Access for All Fund, turning dreams into reality through free and subsidized dance education

On May 10, 2025, Anmol received a Citation from Mayor Wu and the City of Boston recognizing Anmol’s “groundbreaking advocacy as a beacon for nonprofits that serve the community, as well as an inspiration for emerging arts organizations, and in honor of his incredible leadership of innovative, bold, and sustainable community-based dance programming in Boston.”

Anmol Mehra Access for All Fund

In recognition of Anmol’s unparalleled dedication, Urbanity Dance is proud to rename the scholarship fund The Anmol Mehra Access for All Fund. This initiative continues Anmol’s mission to ensure that every young dancer has the opportunity to shine, regardless of their financial circumstances.

In 2024-2025, the Fund supported 183 young people (about 50% of our student body), offering not only tuition, but dance attire, performances, snacks, transportation stipends, and recital flowers. Throughout the academic year, students participated in one to five classes per week, and this summer, numerous students are participating in dance camps and intensives, serving not only as dance education, but as essential childcare for working parents. The total cost of covering each student for an entire school year is between $1,000-$1,500.

The need for Access for All is growing:

  • Since 2020, the number of students on scholarship has increased almost 300%.

  • The average household income for participating students is approximately $30,000.

  • Of Access for All students, 40% identify as Black, 40% as Hispanic or Latine, and 12% as Asian.

Because of the training and mentorship through Access for All, graduating High School Seniors were awarded scholarships at their colleges of choice, choosing to pursue dance in addition to other interests. Access for All has made a lasting impact on their students’ lives, and needs support to continue doing so.

Here’s what Ma’ayan, one of our Access for All graduates this year, has to say about Urbanity:

“Being an Access for All student at Urbanity has allowed me to pursue my passion for dance and find an amazing community of young dancers like myself. The faculty and admin care so much about each student's success, and they have been endless supporters of my goals! I am now off to study Dance and Environmental Science & Policy at Smith College!”

Our Goal: $100,000 for 100 Young Dance Students

To further Anmol’s legacy, we aim to raise $100,000 to support 100 young dance students next school year. Donations will provide:

  • Free tuition for aspiring dancers

  • Wraparound supports, including:

  • Dance attire

  • Healthy snacks

  • Tickets to performances
