Board of Directors Nominations

As a member of the Board of Directors, you serve to advance Urbanity Dance’s mission – to inspire, engage, and empower individuals and communities through the art of dance and movement. You do this by providing strategic oversight and governance for the organization and by routinely showing up as an engaged member of the Urbanity community. You support the work of the organization through both your time and treasure and you are a vocal advocate and champion for the organization in places and spaces that help advance the organization and achieve its goals. While day-to-day operations are the responsibility of Urbanity management and staff, you provide foresight and insight to support the staff and key decision-making.

All members of the Board of Directors:

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to Urbanity management and staff in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan;

  • Stay informed of, and meet all, fiduciary and legal responsibilities outlined in the organization’s bylaws; 

  • Review and approve the annual budget, audit reports, and all material business decisions;

  • Contribute to the annual performance review of the executive director;

  • Proactively engage in the recruitment of new Board members that reflect the communities Urbanity serves and offer necessary subject matter expertise to support the organization most effectively;

  • Serve at least one full three-year term, attending all quarterly Board meetings and an annual Board retreat;

  • Serve on at least one standing committee and/or workgroup and attend quarterly committee meetings;

  • Regularly attend Urbanity events, performances, and fundraisers; 

  • Represent Urbanity Dance at networking and/or funder events; 

  • Make annual financial gifts that are commiserate with personal capacity

Ideal candidates have the following preferred qualifications*:

  • A commitment to and understanding of the arts, preferably dance, and the Urbanity community.

  • Expertise in finance, fundraising/development, nonprofit governance, marketing, HR, medicine, or law.

  • An affinity for cultivating strong relationships and maintaining them over time. 

  • A network of potential donors, volunteers, or other supporters for the organization. 

  • The capacity to give or get a minimum of $2,000 per fiscal year with a reach goal of $5,000 per fiscal year.
