Work-Study Program

Outline of Program: Urbanity Dance’s Work-Study Program provides our Adult Program students with the opportunity to work in exchange for free class tuition. Duties include customer service such as checking-in students, connecting clients to appropriate resources to meet their needs, as well as general office work such as cleaning, facility maintenance tasks, answering phone calls, relaying messages and providing basic information to the public. Cleaning or maintenance duties sometimes require late hours of work.

Work in Exchange for Dance Classes!

  • Work studies are allowed to take the class during their shift for free in exchange for working. Work-studies may also choose to work a shift at a different time during the week than the class they are taking, if they would prefer to take class “off the clock.” The rule is for every shift you work (~1.5 hours), you receive one class for free. Work-Study scholars are allowed to choose from the 10/12-week session classes and/or the drop-in/open classes.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must commit to a minimum of 3 months, with a maximum of 2 “excused” absences per session. Three tardy arrivals to a shift (more than 5 minutes late) are equivalent to one absence. Absences beyond the second must be approved by the work-study supervisor (Hannah), or they could result in the termination of this work-study contract. Work-study candidates who have been terminated on account of poor attendance will not be eligible to continue in the program in future class sessions.

  • Proficiency in English (Spanish is a plus, but not required)

  • Prior experience in customer service roles

  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to multitask with detailed accuracy in a fast-paced environment

  • Proficiency in Google Suite

  • Clean CORI/SORI results upon the date of hire
