Vita Murrow

Vita Murrow is an educator, artist, and writer.  Her work in education encompasses running school tutoring centers, private practice as a literacy specialist, and program directing in educational justice tackling gaps in achievement.  Vita’s body of work as an artist and author spans film and television including legacy productions such as Sesame Street.  She is the author of 10 titles for children, with a focus on collaboration, inclusion, preservation of childhood and the democratization of art and storytelling. Her intersectional feminist fairy tale retellings High Five to the Hero and Power to the Princess were celebrated as "Brilliant." By Kirkus Reviews. Her recent four series True Stories of Animal Hero’s is available worldwide. Vita is co-creator, together with Artist Ethan Murrow, of the short film Dust, (official selection in the 46th annual New York Film Festival). Their children’s book debut, The Whale, was nominated for a CILIP Greenway Medal, and recent title Zero Local nominated for a 2021 ALSC Notable Children's Book award, received 2022 Junior Library Guild Medal, and was a Massachusetts Book Award Honor. Vita holds an M.S.Ed. from Bank Street College GSE (New York City), and a B.F.A from Cornish College of the Arts (Seattle).  Vita is a proud alumnus of AmeriCorps, the Rockwood Leaderships Institute, and Aardman Animation Studio’s Academy.
