Dancers from Urbanity’s Professional Company and Creative Class, a roster of guest choreographers, and interdisciplinary collaborators will perform vignettes in a variety of locations in the South End that explore the many ways through which we receive information - the internet, books, stories, communities, bodies, time - and how one’s personal narrative can serve as one’s ultimate truth.

Urbanity NEXT

Multicultural Arts Center, Cambridge

NEXT will return for its eighth annual performance, showcasing rising talent among Boston-based choreographers. This highly selective program serves as a springboard for diverse, rising dancemakers to launch their careers. Choreographers are selected from a wide pool of applicants and are given a four-month residency during which they develop their work with both the Professional Company and Creative Class. NEXT will take place at the Multicultural Arts Center in Cambridge.

Urbanity Dance’s 19/20 Season will close with VERGE, a season finale featuring both world-premiere commissions and re-setting of works by acclaimed choreographers from around the nation. VERGE will also feature a world premiere by Urbanity’s Founder and Director, Betsi Graves.

Boston Contemporary Dance Festival

August 15th, 2020  2:00 p.m. & 7:30 p.m.

Urbanity hosts over thirty companies and choreographers from around the country in this annual festival of bold artistry and cutting-edge collaborations. The festival features performances by Urbanity’s Professional Company alongside a diverse array of ensembles and dance artists together from across the United States, inviting the greater Boston community to experience this art form at its finest. Participants and audience members are encouraged to meet and mingle with critics, producers, photographers, and leaders in the national dance community, all while exploring contemporary dance as a site of social change and progress.

Urbanity X

This new residency program is designed to create opportunity for local choreographers and other artists. Curated by Alexander Davis, collaborators are selected from Urbanity’s wide network of alumni, BCDF and NEXT choreographers, and other artists within the existing community. Urbanity provides mentorship, rehearsal, and performance space, serving as an incubator for talented local artists and new voices.
