What do I wear?
Urbanity dress code is flexible, but dancers should wear something in which they feel comfortable moving, stretching, tumbling, and sweating. Footwear is bare feet or non-slip socks. Level I and higher hip hop students should wear a clean pair of non-mark sneakers that aren't also worn outside. Level II and higher contemporary students should wear a pair of ballet shoes for the ballet technique portion of class.
How do I know where my class is located?
Most classes are held at our main location, 1180 Washington Street in the South End. A few classes are held at alternate locations including Urbanity Balance on 111 W. Concord Street (in the rear)in the South End, Green Street Studios in Cambridge, and Movimiento on 450 Harrison Avenue #61 in the South End. Please refer to our schedule here to find your class location.
I need to miss a few classes. Do you offer make-up options?
Yes! You are welcome to come do a make-up class in the same age group or Level if you let Urbanity know before you come. Classes are not offered on a pay-per-class basis. Most Urbanity holidays do not need to be made up because they are included in the 36 week school year. See our full calendar here.
Do you offer free trial classes?
Yes, please email Haley@urbanitydance.org to schedule a time to try out a class for free. On the day of your free trial, arrive a few minutes early to class to complete a form and sign a waiver.
What if there is a weather emergency?
Urbanity closings for weather emergencies will be communicated to parents and caregivers through email at least two hours before class is scheduled to begin. Students may make-up classes missed for weather emergencies at any point.
Do you offer refunds?
Yes, please email firstname.lastname@example.org for class cancellations. Refunds will be issued for every class following the date of communication.
Do you offer financial aid?
Yes, we have a limited amount of financial aid available for students. To apply, fill out the form found here and return it to Urbanity with your most recent tax statement.
What if I can't pay my tuition on time?
We do charge late fees after the 15th of the month. Please make efforts to pay tuition before then.
What if I write a check and it has insufficient funds?
We charge a $25 fee for any checks that come back to us with insufficient funds.
What if there is an injury, health issue, or other emergency in class?
Urbanity teachers and staff members are trained in first aid and other emergency procedures. We will address the issue and contact the parent, caregiver, and other emergency contacts if anything arises. Please be honest on your registration form about any medical concerns or previous injuries so we can best assist your child.
My child has an allergy to tree nuts. Will they be safe at Urbanity?
Yes! We have a no-nuts policy for all students and staff at Urbanity.
Is there a recital for students?
Yes, we hold a showcase for students ages 3 and up the first weekend in June at BU. We strive to keep costumes and tickets affordable so all families can enjoy the experience. Participation in the showcase is optional but strongly encouraged.
Is there parking near the studios?
As for 1180 Washington, there is metered street parking on Washington Street. You can also find affordable garages one block south on Harrison Avenue. As for Balance, there is visitor street parking on Tremont Street and Shawmut Avenue. We recommend you come early to find a spot.
How do I get to Urbanity via public transportation?
From the South, take the red line to Broadway and walk north up E. Berkeley Street. From the West, take the Green Line to Copley and walk South down Clarendon Street. From the North, take the Orange Line to Tufts Medical Center and walk West on Washington Street.
