Education Coordinator


Urbanity Dance is a Boston-based nonprofit dance organization on a mission to engage, empower and inspire individuals and communities through the art of dance and movement. Through our professional Company, our School, and our Community programs, we aim to engage people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities, both in their own communities and in our own studio space, by helping them discover the joy of movement as dancers, choreographers, students, explorers, and audience members.

Our wide range of partnerships with schools, health centers, local arts institutions, enrichment camps, and juvenile detention centers allows us to share quality dance experiences with the Boston community. We are searching for an Education Coordinator to support our School and Community programs who can help us provide excellent customer service and be there for our students, families and community partners when they need us most!

As our Education Coordinator, you will represent the voice of our students and will serve as a leader across Urbanity Dance’s education programs to make our customer services and policies better. We are looking for an outgoing person who thrives off of meeting new people and is passionate about the power of dance. Ideally, the position would begin mid-August 2017.


Program & Studio Support

  • Act as the lead public-facing staff member of Urbanity’s education programs

  • Manage program-related communications to students and families as well as internally to staff

  • Plan the Youth Student Showcase and quarterly Adult Dance Showcases (scheduling, casting, communications, organizing staffing/volunteers at events, and other logistics)

  • Supervise, schedule and train studio administrators and ensure team is efficient, organized, and professional

  • Hire, train, and supervise part-time studio administrators and ensure the team is efficient, organized and welcoming to all who join our dance community

  • Oversee the studio administrator schedule to ensure each location is staffed and maintained

  • Oversee the studio calendar for education programs and outside rentals and birthday parties and process contracts or invoices and schedule support staff as needed


Registration & Billing

  • Manage year-round student registration processes and systems for 300+ youth and adult students

  • Oversee student accounts and manage payment receiving process for all education programs

  • Assist students through the level placement, trial class scheduling and/or performance ensemble audition processes for new and returning students




  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in education, an arts discipline, arts administration or another related field

  • 1-2 years of work experiences in dance schools, other performing arts/educational/recreational programs, or other closely related fields

  • Demonstrable professionalism and effective interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills

  • Numeracy


  • Bilingual (Spanish, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, or Portuguese preferred)

  • Experience including education program management, teaching (especially dance), or work within the arts/nonprofits

  • Experience supervising and/or training teams
